Do you feel most productive when you work in “emergency mode”?
Have you gotten so used to working in emergency mode, that there seems to be no other way you can function?
We have too many options, choices, and tasks to face in a day—a day with finite time. Many of us constantly work like this—in “emergency mode.”
At the end of the day, we feel we’ve had a productive day. However, we don’t realize that working in this mode can’t last forever. Our bodies will soon wear down.
What do we do then?
We take an emergency vacation/day-off. To rest, relax, or enjoy.
But when we return we start working in emergency mode again, because that’s what we know. It’s our habit.
Why not work in “relaxed mode” and save emergency mode for acute problems?
Here’s how:
- Progressively build systems and enact processes that will help you get your work done effectively, and within time.
- Engage with new ways of completing tasks. Create healthy methods and habits that will soon become your reflexes.
It takes time to build an efficient system that will enable you to work in relaxed mode, but the effort will surely be worth it!
