Many times, we feel sad and unhappy about not getting things done, or not getting them done on time.
Our lives always seem to have a “backlog” of tasks. This backlog sometimes forces us to race and finish each task . . . only to create more tasks! These tasks can include:
- Completing studies or a course to upgrade our knowledge
- Doing research for a future career change
- Getting into the habit of routinely exercising
- Getting furniture fixed at home
- Getting the lawn fixed
And, a dozen others . . .
This backlog seems never-ending, and we feel unaccomplished and frustrated when we’re in this situation.
Sometimes, the key to happiness is figuring out how to be comfortable with the feeling of “things not getting done.”
As we live our lives, we come to realize that the chances of having the “all is done” feeling are pretty rare. We will always have “things” that are unfinished. However:
- You can be happy if you look at the work that is already finished.
- Or, you can celebrate the progress you made and feel happy about it.
- Or, feel good about moving forward with the work you do every day.
It isn’t, and never will be, about reaching the end with loads of gold, silver, or bronze. It’s more about taking pleasure in and feeling happy about the journey itself.
