When Traversing an Unknown Path . . .

When you’re traversing an unknown path, chasing a new idea, three things are bound to pull you away from your next steps. They are:

  • distractions (daily chores and errands)
  • new ideas (completely different from the core idea that you’re chasing), and
  • new side-ideas (alternatives and substitutes to your current idea).

In order to succeed, you need to overcome the distractions and make those new ideas wait. First, you need to find discipline on your current path.

Traversing an unknown path without a map is a very difficult journey to undertake. With unclear next steps, it is easy to wander in multiple directions and get completely lost.

To keep yourself on course, you need to keep extreme focus on the core idea you’re pursuing.

You constantly need to remind yourself—it might work, or it might not work. The distractions, new ideas, and new side ideas will only result in the core idea heading more towards might not work.

Focus on the core idea, give your new project your best efforts, your best shot, and stop worrying about a multitude of new ideas.

The right and only solution while traversing an unknown path, is to keep traversing a path that leads to the end of the chase of a focused core idea.
