If you’re working on a project that you’re passionate about, the first thing to ignore is the money it will fetch you. The second thought to banish is the idea of “becoming number one.” Third, you must not try to win the race.
If you ruminate over these three elements, chances are your focus will be on getting there first, winning, and making as much money as you can.
These are not exactly the ideas behind a passionate project or doing work that you love.
Instead, try to concentrate your energy on:
- Number one: “How do I relieve customer pain with the work or project that I’m doing?”
- Number two: “How do I reach the smallest group of customers and let them try my work or product?”
- Number three: “How do I interact with my customers to understand how they use my product/work and how it relieves a specific pain? Also, what can I do to improve my work or product further?”
In today’s crowded marketplace, these three essentials will help you build something you love, and something that is successful.
While chasing a big dream, avoid thoughts about dominating a market-space, arriving there first, or becoming the next billionaire.
Instead, chase fulfilling the needs of a small customer base. Try eliminating one particular pain in their daily routine. Finally, genuinely care enough to make your work or product better.
That’s how you create work that you love and work that is successful.
