If you want to start something new and are waiting for the right time, the right moment, and the right environment, here is what you should do:
Ask yourself these three questions:
- What knowledge do I already have?
- Can I apply the knowledge I have today to start the new?
- When will I have the knowledge to start the new?
If your answer for question 1 was “a lot!” and your answer for question 2 was “yes,” then start right away.
There is little use in waiting on the sidelines for the right time. If you have the knowledge and can apply it—start now!
If you answered “not very much” to question 1, and “no” to question 2, push yourself to answer the third one with a concrete date. Which date, which month, and which year will you have the knowledge to start?
“Hard set” that date. Don’t keep it open—if you keep it open it will keep changing forever. If you’re waiting to start, chances are you’ll keep waiting for a long time.
Instead, when you set a hard date to start, you’ll endeavor to gain all knowledge before that date. It’s your disciplined deadline that will help you start. Else, you’ll always be waiting to start.
