The Purpose of an Idea

The purpose of an idea is to spread!

Quite the opposite of what many of us would think—keep your idea to yourself so that you can make a business around it, or make money.

In no case does that happen in this Internet age. The closer you keep your ideas to yourself, the less valuable they become.

If you think your idea is proprietary and that it would help you make tons of money—think again! Even Tesla made its patents open source for the advancement of electric car technology.

Spread the idea, talk to people, share it with everyone around you, put it out on the Internet. An idea picks up value when people talk about it, like it, and share it further.

An idea in your head, and maybe in your friend’s head, has zero value. Spread it to know its worth. The more people talk about it, the more valuable it becomes, and if it goes viral—you’ve hit a jackpot!
