The more years you have spent in your current job, chances are, the more “routined” your workday has become.
You might not realize it, but you’re enslaved to that routine.
Routines form habits. Some habits are good, and some are bad.
If your routines have formed into good habits, then sure, you need to keep them. However, some routines always end up as bad habits.
So how do you break the bad ones?
Do exactly the opposite, one day a week to start with.
Say you have got into the habit of arriving late to the office or taking too many breaks during the workday. One day a week, for the next four weeks, do exactly the opposite. Arrive ten minutes early to work or take only one break (or none) that day.
Every four weeks, gradually increase the number of days you do the opposite of your “bad” routine/habit.
After about four cycles (or four months), there’ll surely be a chance that you’ll have broken the routine or habit.
