Journaling: Expressing Fragments of Who You Are

Life often puts us in situations that we are unprepared for. We become uncomfortable, with too many different thoughts coming from within ourselves and from others. Differing internal and external viewpoints cause confusion, and decision and execution paralysis.

Seeing that everyone’s responses will be different, understanding our own individual reactions during known and unknown circumstances is important and equally beneficial.

Regularly writing in a personal journal is perhaps the most efficient way to understand our reactions. This practice yields helpful psychological dividends in the long run.

Expressing fragments of yourself regularly (at least once a week) leads to a systematic path of self-discovery over a period of time.

Write about our work and your hobbies; express how you lived that week or write down how you reacted in certain situations. It doesn’t matter how large or small the circumstance; writing will help you empty an occupied mind.

Over a period of time, this practice provides clarity of thought and better internal understanding. It helps you remain in control of situations and make better decisions, even in times of extreme pressure or when facing the unknown.
